Recently i ran into Matt and Chris Wilhite at a fundraiser.   Both great runners and people.  Matt sent me an update on his life, running, and goals.

Matt Wilhite Class of 2002
Since I graduated I have worked for Fleet Feet Sports as a manager where we continue to support Mather's running programs anyway possible. I coached cross country and track at Mather for 2 years. I have also run many half marathons and hundreds of road races as a member of the FleetFeet Racing Team. I hope to one day when all done with school to return to coaching. I am currently studying to major in Fire Science at College of DuPage, working my way towards becoming a fire fighter/paramedic. I have recently obtained my Emergency Medical Technician
license. Because of injuries I was unable to run track last season at College of DuPage (which was a real bummer because they won the Junior College National Championship.) But thats just that's rededicated me to
training even harder for my debut marathon next summer. My goal is to run sub 3 hours at The Chicago Marathon, I'm coming for you Coach DeVinney.

Thanks,

Matt Wilhite

Farrahadoon Durrani as a Freshman in High School

Farrahadoon Durrani (class of '05) and Ahsan Khan (class of '06) are both running at UIC.  Ahsan is running mid-distance and Farrahadoon is running distance.  Both are excited about their new team and doing well in their studies.  They are looking to get an apartment together near campus.  In a recent phone call from Farrahadoon he said "hey coach you live near UIC me & ace can live with you that way you can help us with Calculus Hw"  I responded by laughing then hanging up.  i hope to see the both of them race this spring.

Matthew Kim is in his Freshman year at North Park University.  I'd see him around the neighborhood running with his team.  I've talked with his new coach much more than with Matt but coach says he's working hard and doing well.

North Park Cross Country

Mark Akins is in his Freshman year at Aurora University.  I'd hoped to see him continue his running as he had such a terrific junior year at Mather and had such battles with injuries his senior year.  He is on the team and enjoying college life and running very much.

Aurora Cross Country

I've seen Kevin "boltin" Baker (class of '05) a few times in past weeks.  He was at College of DuPage his freshman year when he ruptured his achilles. (a real bummer because they won the Junior College National Championship.)   Anyway the injury forced him to hang up the spikes.  He missed living in Chicago and transferred to Wright College this year.  He's doing well though and is working towards becoming a PE teacher and coach.  I'm excited about coaching his little sister next year at Mather.  Kevin describes her as "quiet" and smart.  Those qualities and a little of the Baker speed will make her fun to coach.
